Diversity events

Salford EMTAS aims to promote inclusion and celebrate diversity through sharing resources and supporting events in primary and secondary schools throughout the year to raise awareness of the rich heritage and cultures that exist in the city. Key dates can be found on the Salford Inclusion calendar which can be downloaded from the equality and cohesion page.

Black History Month - lots of people all together, looking to the right. A person is holding an open book, also looking to the right.

Learning about differences, identifying commonalities and gaining a better understanding of all communities promotes a more cohesive and tolerant society. Events supported by EMTAS in the past include:

  • Holocaust Memorial Day in January
  • Refugee Week in June
  • Gypsy Roma Traveller History Month in June
  • Windrush Day on 22 June (an educational pack for schools can be downloaded below)
  • Black History Month in October
  • Chinese New Year (January/February)

Projects have included music, drama and story writing workshops, displays in local libraries, community events and presentations and performances by local community members. We also have our own Traveller Wagon Project.

EMTAS has worked with a number of other organisations such as the local universities, Salford Forum for Refugees and People Seeking Asylum, City of Sanctuary UK and Music Action International as well as many others.

If you would like EMTAS to support with a diversity or inclusion event in your school please contact EMTAS on emtas@salford.gov.uk.
