Events happening in Eccles

One of the ways we are making changes in the town centre is through events.

During the consultation for Eccles Vision people said they wanted Eccles to be a place that is vibrant, where they can meet with family and friends. They were proud of the town’s heritage and also wanted to look to the future. They wanted to see things happening in the town centre – for it to come to life and to see that things are changing.

The events and projects are open to everyone so please do get in touch if you want to get involved in future activities.

Picturing Eccles, Barton Gym by Adam Keigher

Picturing Eccles

When: Friday 6 September to Saturday 19 October 2024

Where: Eccles Library, Eccles Gateway, Barton Lane, Eccles, Salford M30 0TU. And The Mall, Eccles Shopping Centre, Eccles, Salford M30 0EA

For the past six months, photographer-in-residence Paula Keenan has been working with residents to capture the diversity of people and places that make up Eccles. A host of local community groups and the general public have explored the town through photo walks, creative workshops, collecting archived and donated images. Over plenty of cups of tea she spent time talking with people about what they love and hope for the future of Eccles.

Eccles today is on an exciting journey of major change to reinvent itself as a thriving town centre. This project was formed between Salford City Council and Open Eye Gallery as a way to strengthen this vision further and celebrate local culture at this important time for Eccles.

We Live Here

21 July to 30 September 2023

The We Live Here art trail was designed to bring some colour to brighten up Eccles Shopping Centre. The art trail consisted of 24 stopping places through the shopping centre, complete with a trail map for families and an opportunity to add your own work.

The artwork Included murals on walls and shutters, vinyls on windows, installations in empty shops, a projection, knitting, light, glass, digital work, silk and ceramics.

307 local residents made the artwork alongside 16 professional artists.

Mystery Bird

23 to 27 January 2024

Over 5 nights, a giant illuminated birdcage travelled along 50 residential streets, taking in Peel Green, Barton, Winton and Patricroft before visiting the town centre.

Mystery Bird made it possible for people from every corner of Eccles to experience something joyful and magical on their doorsteps. There is such potential for change in Eccles, and Mystery Bird was able to shine a light on the town and make it somewhere people can be proud of.

Mystery Bird, originally developed by Quays Culture, is a creative event designed to bring people together, helping to build a sense of community, pride and hope.

The installation features contributions from paper artist Helen Musselwhite, vocal artist Jason Singh, video projection artists Illuminos, local fabricators M3 Industries, and digital expert Jack Hardiker.
