Maintaining the green space

An officer raking leaves

We manage and maintain over 800 hectares of precious green space in Salford. This includes parks, playing fields, playgrounds, sports facilities, cemeteries, allotments and highway areas.

We aim to achieve as high a standard as possible with available resources. Our service standards are in line Customer Service Excellence and the Green Flag standards, which we have adopted and work towards. Find out more about our service standards.

Grass mowing schedule

Much of our parks and open spaces are covered with grass. The council’s Grounds Maintenance teams generally start mowing in April and end in late September or October. This is weather dependant.

Sports pitches are mowed weekly. Park grasslands will be mown every 3 weeks, unless identified as a reduced mowing site. More information can be found the 'why we are reducing mowing frequency in select areas across the city' webpage.
