Improvement scheme at Bury New Road/ Moor Lane/ Singleton Road junction

The scheme will introduce new push-button-controlled traffic signals on all arms of the junction to make it easier and safer for pedestrians and cyclists to cross and navigate the junction. Works will also include resurfacing of the carriageway and footway, and new tactile paving at crossing points. The scheme will see improvements to street lighting and some tree pruning to ensure lighting and visibility are unobstructed.

The improvement scheme, which has been designed in collaboration with residents following an engagement on scheme proposals in June 2023, will tackle existing safety concerns of the local community.

When will the works take place?

The works will start on 1 July and last approximately 12 weeks. Working hours will be Monday to Friday 8am to 6pm. To minimise disruption for residents and commuters, any works requiring traffic restrictions will be undertaken between 9.30am and 3.30pm.

Will there be any traffic restrictions?

To facilitate the works the existing traffic signals will be disconnected, removed, and replaced with temporary four-way traffic signals for the duration of the works. Traffic restrictions will include lane closures at different locations around the junction, depending on where the works are taking place.

The two bus stops near the junction on Bury New Road will be suspended throughout the works. Notices will be placed on local bus stops for more information about any temporary stop relocation or bus route diversions. For further details please visit the Transport for Greater Manchester website.

Towards the end of the project, we will also need to close the road overnight for resurfacing. More details on this will be provided nearer the time.
