Course description:

This course will support those established in the role of SENCO in gaining a refresher of their statutory duties involved in relation to changes in legislation, and anything new in Salford.

The course will support you to cascade information and support other staff to implement the graduated approach.

It will help you to identify a co-SENCO and up skill them in the role.

The course will also support your understanding of how to approach difficult and sensitive conversations with parents.

Outcomes:

  • To be aware of some of the commonly encountered special educational needs and explore practical strategies for support
  • To know when, why and how to seek external specialist support
  • To explore the role of the SENCO and understand their responsibilities
  • To understand the importance of partnership with parents
  • To understand the importance of a graduated approach
  • To consider the importance of early identification of individual children’s barriers to learning and development
